Selective Thoughts on the Death of Osama bin Laden (Jesus' Teachings and Torture)

I had a discussion yesterday relating to the death of Osama bin Laden.

The discussion went something like this......

Me:  (somewhat paraphrased)  "Jesus taught peace, but was tortured.  Many of the current Christian religious right in the US seem to be happy with the fact that torture was used on many followers of Islam to get small snippets of intelligence that helped lead to the execution of Osama bin Laden.  Isn't this kind of torture inconsistent for the followers of Jesus -- who Christians symbolize by a symbol that itself shows torture (a cross)?"

Her:  "Not at all.   Christians in the USA have an obligation to perform waterboarding and other forms of torture, if it will lead to justice for them and other terrorists.    It seems inconsistent for me to hear you use the teachings of Christ (who you do not believe was God's Son) to point out anything that fails to help justice for those who kill Christians."

Me:  "Who would Jesus , the Prince of Peace, torture?"
